Have you been meaning to visit New York’s Costume Institute but you just can’t seem to fit it into your robust schedule? Well there’s great news for you… For the first time, almost all of the Institute’s vast collection of clothing has been converted to an online database.
The Metropolitan Museum of Art has worked diligently on formatting and digitizing 29,432 objects from the 31,000 piece collection. This project was initiated in 2000.
The online archive will be continuously updated, and viewers can zoom in on many of the pieces. You can view this through the museum’s website metmuseum.org/works_of_art/the_costume_institute.
